About the Role
Kalamuna is seeking a seasoned Front-End Developer to lead front-end technical strategy, architect complex JavaScript web solutions, and implement cutting-edge, mission-driven digital experiences. In this role, you will collaborate with design, UX, and project management teams to translate client goals into scalable, performance, and accessible Drupal and decoupled sites.

You will guide the front-end technical discovery process, propose implementation strategies, and act as a front-end technical lead on projects, ensuring both technical excellence and alignment with project goals and budgets. Your deep experience with Drupal site building, front-end architecture, and custom development will help shape how we deliver impactful solutions.

This role reports to the Director of Technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a front-end technical lead across Drupal projects from discovery through deployment.
     
  • Architect and implement front-end Drupal and decoupled solutions.
     
  • Participate in early project planning, providing technical insight during design phases.
     
  • Define technical requirements and create implementation strategies for both new builds and iterative improvements.
     
  • Promote and refine shared processes and reusable components.
     
  • Support development best practices.
     
  • Collaborate with designers and UX strategists to deliver accessible and performant front-end experiences.
     
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
     
  • Stay current with the Drupal and open-source ecosystem and contribute to R&D and innovation initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Agency experience is required.
     
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—you’ll work closely with clients and team members.
     
  • Mastery of Drupal, including theming and configuration.
     
  • Deep experience with front-end and caching Drupal APIs and site architecture.
     
  • Proficiency in front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, Advanced JavaScript, Twig, and responsive theming. 
  • Experience with component-based development, style guides, and design systems.
     
  • Strong command of Git, Agile workflows, and task estimation.
     
  • Experience with Drupal hosting platforms like Pantheon and Acquia.
     
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, local development tools, and deployment automation.
     
  • Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG) and performance best practices.
     
  • Understanding of security, browser testing, and scalability.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (React, Nuxt.js,  Vue.js, Angular)
     
  • Working knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, and Tag Manager
     
  • Strong knowledge of decoupled Drupal, Static Sites, React Applications, or WordPress
     
  • QA practices, including automated testing and front-end performance monitoring

  • This is a fully remote position for candidates based in the United States or Canada.
