Kalamuna seeks a part-time contractor up to 15-25 hours/week to enhance and support our Tyk.io Gateway API architecture, which is developed using Go and JavaScript. This role involves strategic updates and feature development for our transportation client, as well as upgrades for internal tooling, documentation, and training. This is a remote position with flexible hours with an expectation to meet internal and external deadlines and deliver to specifications within the estimated time.

This role reports to the Director of Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Write scalable, robust, testable, efficient, clear, and idiomatic code
  • Translate software requirements into stable, working, high-performance software.
  • Ability to research and follow best practices for platforms and frameworks
  • Ability to refactor code for maintainability and extensibility 
  • Perform upgrades to:
    • the infrastructure of API Gateway
    • internal tooling — local Docker environment setup
    • CI/CD upgrades
  • Document all of the developed solutions and enhancements
  • Train internal and external personnel

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience developing GO packages that are scalable and maintainable
  • Familiar with Golang Plugins
  • GoLang API development experience
  • Experience writing clear technical documentation that is easy to follow
  • Able to audit and find pitfalls in someone else’s code
  • Experience with CI/CD, namely GitHub actions
  • Experience setting up or understanding advanced, local Docker-based development environments is a must (preferably Lando)
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Has experience with Tyk.io platform or closely comparable open source API gateway platform
  • Experience with unit testing & test-driven development
  • Deep understanding of JavaScript tests
